Witch Hunter Robin is a Japanese anime series created by Sunrise. Witch Hunter Robin follows the STN-J, the Japanese branch of a secret global organization called "SOLOMON", that fights the harmful use of witchcraft. Potential witches are targeted -- for arrest or elimination, should their powers "awaken" -- using a database of those who have the power of witchcraft, or have inherited such power from their parents.
The series focuses on one of the STN-J's newest members, Robin Sena. Robin is a Craft User, born in Japan and raised by the Roman Catholic Church in Italy. She is trained to use her craft (pyrokinesis) to hunt down witches.
In this series, witches are individuals with special powers like ESP, telekinesis, mind control, and so on -- not broom-traveling potion masters. Robin Sena, a 16 yr-old craft user, arrives from Italy to Japan to work for an organization called STN Japan Division (STN-J) as a replacement for one of STN-J's other witch hunters who was recently killed in the line of duty.
Witchcraft is a genetic trait, dormant within a number of individuals within the human population. However, these powers can be "awakened" in these dormant human "Seeds" at any time. Trained hunters -- usually craft-users or Seeds themselves -- are needed to keep watch over Seeds and to hunt down those whose abilities become active and harmful to the public.
Witch hunters serve in secret organizations, such as the STN-J or its parent organization, Solomon, to curtail the dangerous use of witchcraft in society and to keep witch-kind hidden from the public eye. Even the police -- who cooperate with the STN-J in abnormal criminal cases -- do not know what STN-J does.
Unlike other divisions of STN, STN-J tries to capture the witches alive in order to study how why and they became witches in the first place.
